Phoenix Solar Racing is a student-led group dedicated to providing hands-on experience with solar-electric vehicles, interdisciplinary learning in engineering and business, and outreach in sustainability by direct interaction with industry and the community. The team is divided into three sub-teams, each with a leader managing a different aspect of the team. The three teams are:
Business and Administration
The Business and Administration Team is responsible for the team's fundraising and communication. Besides raising funds for project development and managing the team's brand, the Business and Administration Team also helps students leverage their solar car experience into internships and jobs and ensures that the team completes all of the tasks required to operate and compete. The Business and Administration Team is also primarily responsible for communications between the team and the professional world, and coordinates most of the community and professional events the team participates in.
Electrical
The Electrical Team is responsible for designing and building all of the electrical systems on the car, including the battery, the array, the propulsion, and the low-voltage system that powers the computer and controls the accessories on the car. The electrical team is also responsible for the software that controls the car and developing an efficient race strategy. The Electrical Team provides strong real-world engineering experiences that include PCB design, electrical system troubleshooting, and solar array production.
Mechanical
The Mechanical Team is responsible for all of the mechanical systems on the car, including the body, the chassis and the suspension. The mechanical team is very important because many of the systems are pivotal in determining the maximum efficiency of the car. Like the Electrical Team, The Mechanical Team also provides it's members with many important real world skills, including manufacturing processes and design and simulation of parts.

Director of Business and Administration: Cailin Moore
Major: Mechanical Engineering About Cailin: The director of the team's business and marketing team, Cailin oversees fundraising, branding, accounting, and educational initiatives for the team. Cailin communicates with sponsors to ensure the financial stability of the team and works to promote the team through community events and social media awareness. Cailin joined the team because she is passionate about the future prospects of renewable energy and loves problem-solving. She has found running a nonprofit to be rewarding as it has allowed her to lead in the crucial behind the scenes operations that allow the team to be successful. Cailin envisions the team competing internationally and promoting the versatility of solar energy and practicality of electric vehicles to the global and local community. Major: Mechanical Engineering About Nolan: As one of the two lead engineers for the team, Nolan works closely with all the engineers to figure out the design and construction of the mechanical parts of the car. Nolan is also involved in the behind-the-scenes running of the team, along with the other board members. Nolan joined the team looking to learn more about solar technology, and get hands on engineering experience. As renewable energy becomes an even more prevalent and enticing field of study for students, Nolan sees the team growing exponentially in size and stature. As this happens, Nolan hopes this will lead to more and more students getting the opportunity to learn all the same technical lessons and life lessons that the world of solar racing has taught him. Major: Mechanical Engineering About Joe: As a director of engineering, Joe works with all of the team's engineers in projects ranging from mechanical design and manufacturing to electrical system development. Joe joined the team because he is passionate about the use and development of renewable energy and wanted to learn more about the uses of solar energy. Another reason Joe joined the team is because of the unique opportunity it presented to deliver hands on, interdisciplinary skills and training from day one. Major: Electrical and Computer Engineering About Gray: The manager of the official team website, Gray oversees much of the communication between the team and the outside world. He works to ensure that the information on the website is up to date and writes blog posts detailing the team's current status. Gray is also an active member of the electrical and mechanical engineering team. Gray joined the team to compete in the 2014 ASC and immediately fell in love with solar racing. He enjoys the engineering challenges that come with building a reliable, functioning car and hopes to compete with the team in many national and international races in the future.
